This week I realised that living without internet is like having your left hand cut off. And I'm not talking about checking updates of those 20 webcomics I watch. I can't receive mail, I can't check dA, I can't do anything -,-. I seriously can't wait when I'll get my laptop and a piece of internet.

Anyway. It's been my first week at university, and we've been already assured that most of us won't pass the first year... (Greets for Karsun and those three guys who are reloading the first year). I met a lot of people, and about half of my group turned up to be bigger game- fantasy geeks than I am... frightening.

After watching one episode of Devil may cry animated series I decided to share with you my thoughts on the evolution of anime as a genre (Like soap opera genre etc.). In short, I'm scared.

I've been into anime for over 7 years, back to the days of Locke Superhuman and Hi, Michael (I'm talking about polish reality of course). It was then when little Pumpkin spotted an issue of Evangelion in some kiosk. I fell in love with it on the first glance, and it's still one of my favourite anime/manga titles. Later came Trigun, Slayers, Magic knight Rayearth, Chobits, Onegai Teacher (Okay, I'm not exactly proud of that one but duh) and other classics. I suppose those were the best years of my life: Conventions, fanzines, buying fansubs from a fellow pirate and of course studying qabbalah influences in NGE.

I suppose that the first time I noticed something was going wrong was when I saw .hack//SIGN on Teleport convention (2003? 2004? I'm not sure). I mean, for an action title it was kinda... overtalked? It was really amazing, the creators managed to fit 18 minutes of dialogue into each 25 minute episode. For the first time I didn't care to see the ending, I've seen drama titles with more action.

Lately I came upon Ergo Proxy, advertised as "Mind blowing cyber punk". True, the first episode is great. We have future, androids, strange alien-ish creature, lots of action. And what happens then? There are dialogues, mostly about Nietze's philosophy. Lot's of them. During 26 episodes of story, the main hero travels to a destroyed city, comes back and destroys the city he started his travel from, disputing about the point of existence during free time, which makes no sense whatsoever. Oh, and he kills three alien-ish creatures inbetween. Mind blowing.

And now I've seen DMC. again, instead of arse kicking action (It's Dante for lawd's sake!!) we have cheesy dialogues, engrish and fanservice.

Mind you, there are many more such titles. Wolf's Rain, Texhnolyze, Black Lagoon and many, MANY more.

My friends say I'm too picky. That's not it. Lately I've seen Argento Soma, an early 00's rip off of NGE. The story's cheesy, the artwork's medicore and the characters are shallow. But it kept me entertained through the whole series. Why? Because the writers managed to show something new in each episode, explaining the story not only through dialogues, but also action. Recently our yellow brothers seem to forget that.

It's anime, dammit! Give us some action!

Nyeah! I Finally got my hands on Zeitgeist, and it's one helluva album. There's everything you'd expect from Corgan: Heavy riffs, mind twisting lyrics and that indescribable something that makes Smashing Pumpkins one of the most original alternative rock band out there. I had a good laugh while reading the booklet, tho. For the last six months SP fanboys were fighting over the final band line-up, with hopes that James Iha and D'arcy would return. Sorry kids, the whole album has been recorded by only Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin. In yor face! One might say that with only two members it's not Pumpkins anymore, but even James admitted that Corgan's a control freak and he felt like a session musician all the time.

Ok, so first university recruitment lists are turning up, and I didn't make it on either English philology in Gdańsk or Japanese philology in Warsaw. For now. I hope to get into Gdańsk in the second (Third?) recruitment roll, and there are always evening classes on Philology in Warsaw. I hope for the best.
